Martin Bennett is a painter who divides his time between Canada, England and Italy. Born in 1970 in Winchester, England, he immigrated to Canada in 1975. Bennett studied painting at the Alberta College of Art and Design, graduating with distinction in 1992. While currently living in Saskatoon, the artist spends time working in London and Rome and their smaller surronding cities. Bennett's "Static Image Paintings" have become well known for their exploration of the relationship between abstraction and image making. Using a complex reductive methodology involving photography, photocopying, drawing, painting and sanding, his static paintings alter the viewer’s expectations of the traditional forms of representation and abstraction.
