Central Standard Time
New work by Danny Singer
TrépanierBaer is pleased to announce the opening of an exhibition of new works by Vancouver based artist Danny Singer titled, Central Standard Time, Thursday, September 28th from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
The new panoramic photographs presented in Central Standard Time are the result of a three-month exploratory trip throughout the Canadian and American mid-west, undertaken earlier this year. In this new suite of panoramas, Singer continues to represent the main streets of mid-western Canadian and American towns through his highly specialized process comprising numerous photographic views digitally stitched together to form a seamless panoramic image.
These new, poignant, beautifully composed photographs appear more telling in their revelatory detail and iconic character than in Singer’s earlier works. The artist has honed his stance; one can literally see and feel his engagement with each of the towns photographed. Each picture captures the nuances of place in which we view specific social geographies poised in the present yet replete with the traces of histories no longer in view.
In the Galleria, Singer will also present works from his acclaimed series, Pole, a suite of small scale photographs depicting the space between the towns that the artist photographed in the summer of 2005.
Wiseton, a real time video, intended as an adjunct to the photographic works, expresses something of the pace at which life in a small town works. It will be shown for the first time in Calgary during the exhibition.
Please join Danny Singer for the opening of his exhibition Central Standard Time, Thursday, September 28th from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
