Is it true? YES! The wait is FINALLY OVER! From his humble beginnings in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, through the years of prodigious production in Calgary, Alberta, beginning in the late 70s and that continues unabated today, Chris Cran – the critically-acclaimed artist who is literally LOVED BY MILLIONS – is fulfilling his own Cranifest Destiny by confidently securing his place in the pantheon of Canadian painting with this exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada.
Surveying Cran’s artistic production over the past forty years, Chris Cran, Sincerely Yours features over 100 paintings and drawings from the national collection, other institutions and private lenders. It is the most comprehensive exhibition on Cran ever produced.
Considered one of the nation’s most notable contemporary artists, Chris Cran is renowned for his humorous and inventive takes on traditional genres such as still life, portraiture, landscape and abstraction. Challenging the viewer’s perception and understanding of major movements in art including Pop art, Op art, Modernist abstraction and Photorealism, Chris Cran playfully combines art history with imagery borrowed from popular culture.
Organized by the National Gallery of Canada and the Art Gallery of Alberta as part of the NGC@AGA exhibition series, and with the generous collaboration of the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, the exhibition is accompanied by a 200-page catalogue. This slip-covered tome includes 100 colour plates with essays by Josée Drouin-Brisebois, Ryan Doherty, Nancy Tousley, William Wood and Bruce McCulloch.
TrépanierBaer will have a limited number of artist-signed catalogues for purchase. For more information, please click here.
TrépanierBaer offers its heartfelt congratulations to Chris Cran for this outstanding achievement. We also wish to thank the National Gallery of Canada (Josée Drouin-Brisebois), the Art Gallery of Alberta (Catherine Crowston) and the Southern Alberta Art Gallery (Ryan Doherty) for this superb and innovative collaboration.
