TrépanierBaer cordially invites you to join us Friday, April 11, 2014 for the presentation of Chris Millar: Lost a Cartful, Found a Wagonload, an exciting exhibition of new work.
On view for the first time is a new major sculpture titled Reap, a fantastical and transmogrific adventure that features dozens of cast resin components and a cacophony of modified found objects: from a frosty iceberg – almost lifeless except for a few signs of absent inhabitants – to rubbish piles, flickering fires, cigarette butts and a couple of ice cabanas that give some clues about the populace. Included in the mix is a sultry tropical space, featuring a massive ophiomorphic tree ripe with grape bunches coveted by a multi-appendaged gelatinous vinous scavenger-fiend who gathers these grapes and converts them to wine by use of a portable wine press and fermentation cart. This piece is a snapshot into a much larger fantasy narrative that the viewer can play out in his or her mind.
Also on view is a new series of miniature portrait paintings depicting the eccentric and peculiar inhabitants of another reality: erudite scholars, time jumpers and practitioners of orthodentiomantic puppetry, to name a few.
This exhibition is not to be missed! We look forward to seeing you at the gallery!
