Over the years I’ve found that ideas are catalyzed by work more often than vice versa. In the many hours it takes to make things, ideas percolate and enter into conversation with what has happened in the making. But the making made me think. Some thoughts stick to the work well enough to influence my sense of what could happen next, or what might unite a group of works. Of course the “idea” of making a sculpture in a specific place at a specific moment in history is fundamental.
