Exhibitions To See

Fabels
Chagall and Wainio

The Musée d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul is now presenting a new exhibition at the crossroads of literature and visual arts. Under the theme of the Fables, two parallel exhibitions present the work of artists Carol Wainio and Marc Chagall, representing the fables of Jean de La Fontaine a century apart.

Carol Wainio is known for both her technical ability and generosity of imagination. Her paintings are visually and conceptually full: lush and textured passages of paint complement metaphorical layers replete with references to the past and present; to popular and high art, and their attendant modes of representation.

History is Painted by the Victors
Kent Monkman

Kent Monkman: History is Painted by the Victors, now on view at the Denver Art Museum is the first major show in the United States for Kent Monkman. Through his painting, Monkman pushes forward an understanding of the lived experiences of Indigenous people today while confronting colonial injustices.

History is Painted by the Victors explores several key moments in Monkman’s career, including the inception of Monkman’s provocateur alter ego—Miss Chief Eagle Testickle— whom he often places in his canonical landscape and genre paintings of 19th century North America as well as The Rendezvous series, which focuses on the “golden age” of settler/Indigenous relations. This show will be travelling to the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts and on view from September 27, 2025-March 8, 2026.
