TrépanierBaer Gallery is pleased to present Wyn Geleynse: Slackwire and Other Situations, an exhibition of recent and seminal works by the artist, as part of the 2018 Exposure Photography Festival.
Wyn Geleynse is one of Canada’s pioneer film and video projection artists with a significant international visual arts career spanning a period of nearly 40 years. His work raises questions about self and identity, commenting on the human condition with a subtle blend of irony and humanity. Geleynse had worked primarily with installation-based projections in the past, and over the past decade, he has explored the notion of film projection as a metaphor for projecting one’s thoughts and desires.
The exhibition is anchored by the following iconic multi-media installations: The Critics Speak: An Homage to Jasper Johns (2013); Just…(2002); The Slackwire (Funambulist), (2002); and Aura (1991-2). Complementing these works is a series of photographs titled The Pairings.
