ROSS FRANK LECTURE:
In honour of the opening of Keeping Time: Ledger Drawings and the Pictographic Traditions of Native North Americans ca. 1820-1900, TrépanierBaer invited Ross Frank, Director, Plains Indian Ledger Art Project (PILA) and Associate Professor, Ethnic Studies Department, University of California, San Diego, to comment on the ledger drawings and art objects in the exhibition. TRAVEL ADVISORY:
Made in Calgary: The 2000s is Glenbow Museum’s fifth and final installment of survey exhibitions devoted to the visual arts community in Calgary and its surrounding regions. Included in the exhibition are works by TrépanierBaer artists Chris Cran, DaveandJenn, Chris Millar, Ron Moppett, and Ryan Sluggett, to name a few. Curated by Katherine Ylitalo, the exhibition opens September 20, with the Launch Party scheduled for September 27, and closes on December 14, 2014.
Vikky Alexander: Theatergarden Beastiarium opens September 20 at Wilding Cran Gallery in Los Angeles, California. The exhibition runs through to November 1, 2014.
Geoffrey James: Inside Kingston Penitentiary (1835-2013) runs from August 30 through December 7 at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre, Kingston, Ontario, with a celebratory opening on September 18, 2014. The exhibition is complimented by a forthcoming catalogue published by Black Dog Publishing with an insightful essay by Geoffrey James.
