Martin Bennett: Grey/Four Leaves – An Installation
TrépanierBaer is pleased to present new work by Martin Bennett in our Viewing Room. These 11 paintings are some of the most recent iterations of Bennett’s Static Image Paintings, a series that explores the relationship between picture making, painting, and abstraction through various processes including photography, photocopying, drawing, painting and sanding. As Bennett has remarked:
The image is of a branch and leaves from a tree at the vicarage in Blackheath where I have rented a room most years for the past decade….When I look at the four leaves paintings I think about compass points and about movement and about being stationary, about repetition and uniqueness, about nature and the man-made, about human interaction…There is much embedded in the work that makes them interesting – things to do with time and numbers, and things to do with pictorial aesthetics… there are subtleties and nuances that occur within each painting…
