If you have not already done so or would like to see the exhibition again, The Distance Between : Jude Griebel and Lorraine Simms is on view now the Illingworth Kerr Gallery (IKG) at the Alberta University of the Arts until March 22. Members of the public must book a timed appointment to visit the IKG: please click here or e-mail ikg@auarts.ca to make a reservation.
The Distance Between evokes the ongoing pressure on species and habitats taking place worldwide. Jude Griebel’s hand-constructed sculptural installation and Lorraine Simms’ meticulously rendered drawings consider our kinship with animals and explore our broken relationship with nature and the ecosystem. While strikingly different in appearance, both bodies of work share a research-based approach, a strong focus on craft, and a well-informed exploration of the modes of representation and narrative construction present in scientific displays. Michael Smith, whose exhibition Urban Wild is currently on view at TrépanierBaer, will be at gallery on Saturday, February 19 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm to discuss and comment upon his latest work. For a glimpse into Smith’s process for this new body of work, click here. Please note that appointments are not necessary to visit TrépanierBaer.
We look forward to seeing you!
