New at TrépanierBaer: Sorel Etrog – Rushman Sculptures

TrépanierBaer is pleased to offer for sale three rare, small-scale sculptures by the acclaimed Romanian born Israeli-Canadian artist Sorel Etrog. Titled Rushman Study I, II, III (1976), these elegant abstract figures cast in bronze are succinct depictions of  “movement without actual motion,” and harmony in balance.

Rushman Study I, II, III (1976) served as references for the monumental 12-foot sculpture titled Rushman (1977). In early 1976, Etrog cast a 9-inch bronze maquette and titled it Rushman Study, eventually re-titling it Rushman I Study as additional versions were cast. Later that year Etrog made two additional 11 1⁄4 -inch versions titled Rushman II Study and Rushman III Study, also cast in bronze. Each work is highly finished, and has a different patina, with variations on the forms representing the head and torso of each sculpture.

In 1977, a single, unique and monumental work based on the Rushman III Study was commissioned by the architectural firm WZMH for Bow Valley Square in downtown Calgary. Ultimately titled Rushman, it stood sentinel at that site for over 35 years.
