Santa Baby…. A Holiday Request
Happy Holidays everyone! TrépanierBaer is currently featuring four beautiful paintings by the late Marcel Barbeau, the youngest founding member of Les Automatistes, a catalytic group of Québecois artists credited with revolutionizing the art scene in that province and throughout the country in the early 1940s. These late paintings – dated 2013 – were made three years before the artist’s passing. Barbeau was then in poor health and working in a diminished state, nevertheless, the works deny his physical struggle and poor health, and express a joyful, youthful and rhythmic energy full of optimism. They are a celebration of life and a perfect antidote to the times we live in.
Also on view in the Lobby gallery is Michael Smith’s stunning painting titled 5thApril Angrignon, 2022. This lush landscape painting is the direct result of the artist’s resurfacing from a long COVID lockdown in 2021, and derives from drawings executed en plein air in various locations in and around Montréal, and the Eastern Townships.
Let sweet Santa know that one of these paintings would look amazing in either your study, or living or dining room…
On view now at TrépanierBaer.
