Upcoming: Find Your Eyes.
TrépanierBaer is delighted to announce its upcoming summer exhibition, Find Your Eyes.
The exhibition in the Main Gallery features works by Han Sungpil and Carol Wainio, while the Promenade Gallery presents works by Geoffrey James, Allison Rossiter, Michael Smith, Chris Cran, and Stéphane La Rue, alongside several ceramic works by Zimra Beiner, who is new to the gallery.
Of special note is a newly acquired work by Faye HeavyShield titled Pierce, 2026. “This newly produced work evokes HeavyShield’s mother, Issitaki, whose name means “swaddled” or “wrapped woman.” According to the artist, it can also mean “feeling the strike” or “struck by,” an interpretation HeavyShield prefers. The material—paper—holds this idea. It is fragile, easily marked or pierced, in this case by the quills attached to it, which are just as delicate. Here, the gesture becomes literal: the paper is punctured, marked by contact. The act is both gentle and forceful, a meeting of two vulnerabilities. At times, when asked for her name, HeavyShield borrows her mother’s: Issitaki. In doing so, she carries both meanings forward: held and struck, protected and pierced.”[1]
In the Viewing Room, we are pleased to present photographs by Fred Herzog.
Through to August 8th 2026.
We look forward to seeing you at the gallery.
