Vikky Alexander Nominated for the 2017 Scotiabank Photography Award

TrépanierBaer is pleased to announce that Vikky Alexander has been recognized for the longlist of the 2017 Scotiabank Photography Award.

The winner of the Scotiabank Photography Award will receive a cash prize of $ 50,000.00, a solo exhibition at the Ryerson Image Centre, a primary exhibition at the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, and a book of their work published and distributed worldwide by art book publisher Steidl of Germany.

Selections of Vikky Alexander’s work from the Tokyo Showroom Series are currently on view at TrépanierBaer as part of Making Pictures: Vikky Alexander, IAIN BAXTER&, Fred Herzog, Geoffrey James & Danny Singer for the 2017 Exposure Photography Festival.

Additionally, selections of her earlier work are currently on view in a solo exhibition titled Vikky Alexander: 1981-1983 at Downs & Ross gallery in New York City.

Throughout her career, Vikky Alexander has constructed a body of critically engaging multi-media work examining the relation between nature and the fabricated “natural”. Drawing upon the varying aesthetic devices, and architecture and media, Alexander’s critique centers on the way culture uses simulation to create fictionalized versions of the perfect world.

Alexander has had solo exhibitions and installations at TrépanierBaer Gallery, Calgary; Art Gallery of Windsor; Kunsthalle Bern, Switzerland; at the Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver; and Houses of Glass, The Engine Room Gallery, Massey University, Wellington, New Zealand, to name a few.

Alexander’s work is included in many prestigious collections including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the National Gallery of Canada; the Canada Council; the Deste Foundation, Athens, Greece; and the Vancouver Art Gallery, to name a few.
