VIKKY ALEXANDER:
OTHER FANTASIES

Vikky Alexander: Other Fantasies
April 6 to May 12, 2018
Opening Reception in the Company of the Artist
Friday, April 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

TrépanierBaer Gallery is pleased to present Vikky Alexander: Other Fantasies,  an exhibition of new works including photographs from her recent Ginza Series, and five wall murals based on the artist’s most recent “collage paintings.”

This immersive installation featuring five massive colour-drenched wall murals depicting rooms in unusual landscapes will transform the main gallery into a fantastic, playful, spellbinding seemingly utopian space. Ms. Alexander hopes these imaginative and poetic images will disrupt viewers and provoke them to examine the unease beneath the veneer of modern life, seducing them into asking the question: Where am I; what is this dream?

Other Fantasies expands the artist’s concerns with the nature/culture dichotomy and our desire for utopian ideals, concerns that Ms. Alexander has investigated and presented in her photographic works, sculptures and installations over the past thirty years.

Vikky Alexander is an installation artist, photographer, sculptor, and collagist. She is a leading practitioner in the field of photo-conceptualism. Her work is in international public collections including the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Hammer Museum, UCLA, Los Angeles; Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver; Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg; and Glenbow Museum, Calgary, to name a few.

Vikky Alexander has an upcoming solo exhibition that surveys her 30+ year career scheduled for 2020 at the Vancouver Art Gallery, curated by Daina Augaitis.

Vikky Alexander lives and works in Montréal, Canada.
